Animal Care & Adoption Staff are a key driver of lifesaving outcomes at Hill Country Humane Society. This role combines hands-on animal care with public interaction and adoption support, playing a direct role in helping animals move from shelter to home.

This is an active, fast-paced position in an open-intake shelter environment. Staff work directly with dogs and cats while also assisting adopters on the floor, supporting meet-and-greets, and helping guide thoughtful, successful matches.

Daily work includes animal care, cleaning and sanitation, enrichment, dog handling, and customer service. Some days are steady and routine; others are busy and require flexibility, teamwork, and the ability to stay focused under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as primary support for adoptions and adopter interactions

• Greet and assist potential adopters on the adoption floor

• Handle dogs for meet-and-greets and answer basic questions

• Maintain clean, welcoming kennels that promote animal health and adoption

• Provide daily care including feeding, cleaning, walking, and enrichment

• Observe and communicate animal behavior, health, and needs to the team

• Rotate dogs throughout the day to increase visibility and outcomes

• Support adoption events and off-site outings as needed

• Follow all shelter SOPs, safety protocols, and customer service standards

• Perform other duties as assigned
