Animal Care & Adoption Staff are a key driver of lifesaving outcomes at Hill Country Humane Society. This role combines hands-on animal care with public interaction and adoption support, playing a direct role in helping animals move from shelter to home.
This is an active, fast-paced position in an open-intake shelter environment. Staff work directly with dogs and cats while also assisting adopters on the floor, supporting meet-and-greets, and helping guide thoughtful, successful matches.
Daily work includes animal care, cleaning and sanitation, enrichment, dog handling, and customer service. Some days are steady and routine; others are busy and require flexibility, teamwork, and the ability to stay focused under pressure.
Key Responsibilities

Serve as primary support for adoptions and adopter interactions

Greet and assist potential adopters on the adoption floor

Handle dogs for meet-and-greets and answer basic questions

Maintain clean, welcoming kennels that promote animal health and adoption

Provide daily care including feeding, cleaning, walking, and enrichment

Observe and communicate animal behavior, health, and needs to the team

Rotate dogs throughout the day to increase visibility and outcomes

Support adoption events and off-site outings as needed

Follow all shelter SOPs, safety protocols, and customer service standards

Perform other duties as assigned
